WaterPower Canada submits priorities for Federal Budget 2021

WaterPower Canada has presented the association’s priorities to the federal government in response to pre-budget consultations launched to explore how Budget 2021 can support Canadians through the pandemic and help us build back better.

Canada’s recently released Strengthened Climate Plan (SCP) recognizes climate action and clean growth as “key pillar[s] in the Government’s commitment to create over one million jobs… [while] restoring employment to pre-pandemic levels” and, at the same time, achieving a net-zero emissions economy by 2050. Budget 2021 offers the opportunity to create the conditions needed to accelerate investment in major green infrastructure projects in support of these goals.

Across North America, climate change and severe weather events are throwing vulnerable energy infrastructure into sharp focus” said Patrick Bateman, Interim President, WaterPower Canada. “As Canada’s clean-energy powerhouse, the waterpower sector is uniquely positioned to play a critical role in being the reliable and resilient backbone as we turn our minds toward the challenge of achieving our 2030 and 2050 climate policy goals”.
