Postponement of WPC Summit 2025
Canada’s political and economic landscape is shifting dramatically in the coming months. With the upcoming federal election, changing trade policies, and increasing strain on Canada-U.S. relations, our industry is facing significant challenges. Given these factors, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the WPC Summit, HYDROFINANCE – Navigating Risks, Unlocking Potential until early 2026. The purpose of this important summit is to provide industry stakeholders with a forum to discuss how to finance an unprecedented expansion in the coming decades. By rescheduling the event to next year, we aim to foster more informed and productive discussions once a new government is formed and the outlook on Canada-U.S. is clearer.
We are committed to fostering meaningful dialogue at a time when policy, market stability, and regulatory clarity are in flux. To that end, we will be hosting additional webinars in the coming weeks, providing touchpoints for our members as we navigate these uncertain times together.
We remain dedicated to advancing Canada’s clean energy future and will provide updates on new dates and details as soon as they are confirmed. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

WaterPower Canada is pleased to announce the WPC Summit: HYDROFINANCE – Navigating Risks, Unlocking Potential, taking place in Toronto, Ontario. This exclusive event will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, Indigenous partners, and financial experts to address the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of hydropower and sustainable energy development in Canada.
Together, we will explore Canada’s growing energy needs, the risks and roadblocks facing hydro and renewable energy infrastructure, and strategies to mitigate challenges, enhance resilience, and drive innovation in an increasingly competitive and evolving energy landscape.
As a cornerstone of energy reliability, resilience, and sustainability, hydropower remains a sound economic investment, with its upfront costs offset by an indefinite service life through refurbishments and upgrades. However, the sector faces growing risk aversion, increased competition, and a rapidly shifting regulatory environment. Adding to this uncertainty is the evolving global climate conversation and an increasingly competitive market for infrastructure capital in the U.S.
HYDROFINANCE will provide a platform for policymakers and industry stakeholders to develop practical strategies for de-risking hydropower and renewable energy projects, strengthening long-term competitiveness, and securing investment in a dynamic energy landscape. From policy and regulatory insights to innovative financing models and Indigenous partnerships, this summit will outline a clear roadmap for advancing hydropower’s role in Canada’s energy mix.
Join us as we address these challenges head-on and shape the future of hydropower and sustainable, clean energy development in Canada.
