NRCan releases Canada’s first Clean Electricity Strategy, “Powering Canada’s Future”

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) released Canada’s first Clean Electricity Strategy, “Powering Canada’s Future”, positioning Canada as a global electricity powerhouse.

Powering Canada’s Future: A Clean Electricity Strategy details the actions the Government of Canada is taking and articulates its role in building tomorrow’s electricity grids at the pace and scale needed to drive clean growth, strengthening Canada’s competitiveness and attracting investments. It highlights the federal government’s role, focusing on three key areas:

  • Growing the grid and managing demand;
  • Providing policy certainty and smoothing the path; and
  • Collaborating on tailored approaches for every region.

The Strategy lays out a suite of measures to achieve a clean, reliable and affordable electricity system as the backbone of a competitive, net-zero emissions Canadian economy in the 21st century, with growing supply attracting investment and creating good jobs.

Guided by six principles and shaped by extensive engagement, the Strategy provides a clear, long-term signal that will unlock new economic opportunities for workers and investors, drive cost-cutting electrification for Canadian families and fight climate change by investing in clean technologies.
