During this global pandemic, WaterPower Canada continues to support members and keep the lights on for Canadians.

WPC COVID-19 Task Forces

In response to the spread of COVID-19 and its implications for the waterpower sector, WPC has initiated four “COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Task Forces” to facilitate the sharing of best practices and lessons learned amongst Members, and to identify communications, and government and regulatory affairs actions that WPC can pursue to support the sector: Construction; Operations; Suppliers; and Economic Recovery.

See descriptions below and email info@waterpowercanada.ca to join.

WPC Task Forces

Construction Task Force

The Construction Task Force: convenes representatives to discuss preparedness and response for, and measures implemented to mitigate the spread of, COVID-19 at Canada’s largest waterpower construction sites. Member companies discuss concerns, questions or comments, and share best practices and lessons learned surrounding the health and safety of employees on construction sites as the context of the pandemic and recovery evolves.

Operations Task Force

The Operations Task Force convenes WPC Generator Members to share best practices and lessons learned on operational preparedness and response to COVID-19.  Members discuss operational pressure points related to asset management and works planning, and identify communications, and government and regulatory affairs actions that WPC can pursue to support the sector.

Suppliers Task Force

The Suppliers Task Force convenes WPC Supplier Members to explore the implications of project delays or cancellations due to COVID-19 on the waterpower supply chain.  Members discuss the past and forecast implications for their businesses, and identify communications, and government outreach that WPC can pursue to support the sector.

Economic Recovery Task Force

The Economic Recovery Task Force convenes WPC Generator Members to discuss the role of the waterpower in the post-pandemic economic recovery, including shortlisting projects and classes of projects that could be accelerated as part of an economic stimulus package to create jobs and grow the economy.
